Alphabetic Tower

In Batumi, Georgia’s main tourist city, CMD Ingenieros has constructed a steel tower of 130 m in height. This tower redraws the city skyline and portraits the character and fast evolution of the country since its independence in 1991. Erected by the seafront promenade, opposite the Black Sea, this tower is like a welcoming sculpture, it shows Georgia’s most characteristic cultural trait, the Mkhedruli alphabet, a writing system that is unique in the world. Its structure consists of a spatial mesh of steel hollow circular sections. It is crowned by a single-layer sphere of 28 m in diameter made of triangular pieces of laminated glass.
