Alberto Domingo (1965) and Carlos Lázaro (1966) are Doctors of Civil Engineering and Professors at the Polytechnic University of Valencia in the Department of Construction Engineering and Civil Engineering Projects, and the Department of Continuous Medium Mechanics and Theory of Structures, respectively.
They specialize in structures and singular projects. They have designed, calculated, projected and led works such as the Roof of the Submarino Restaurant in Valencia (first time concrete with steel fibre is applied to structural sheets), Xŕtiva Bullring (Pantadome system, in collaboration with Prof. M. Kawaguchi) and the Paterna-Manises Bridge over the river Turia (first bridge made of recycled concrete in the world, in collaboration with Prof. Salvador Monelón). Alberto Domingo and Carlos Lázaro have also taken part in the design and construction of singular structures in Valencia such as the Puente de las Artes (Arts Bridge), la Pechina and Menéndez Pidal underpasses, El Saler underpass, and l'Hemisfčric, l'Umbracle and the City of Arts and Sciences underground car park in Valencia (technical support).
They have coordinated and organized the International Symposium IASS 2009: 50th Anniversary of IASS. Evolution and trends in design, analysis and construction of shell and spatial structures, that took place in Spain in September-October 2009. Furthermore, they have been the organisers and curators of the exhibition Mamoru Kawaguchi, Structural Engineer: Innovation and Tradition in Structural Design.
Carlos Lázaro and Alberto Domingo are members of the Executive Council of the International Association for Shell and Spatial Structures (www.cedex.es/iass), which was founded by Eduardo Torroja in 1959. They also belong to the American Concrete Institute (www.aci-int.org), the Asociación Científico-Técnica del Hormigón Estructural (www.e-ache.net), Internacional Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering www.iabse.org), the Colegio de Ingenieros de Caminos, Canales y Puertos (www.ciccp.es), and the Asociación de Ingenieros de Caminos, Canales y Puertos (www.ingenieria-civil.org).
In the research field, they focus their work both on the study of the resistant behaviour of concrete with fibres as structural material and on the analysis of very flexible rods under consideration of large rotations.
